Stepping Out with French Toast

When I started this blog I was very big on anonymity. My moniker would be "Random" and no one (except my close friends) would know my true identity. But now I see that this was perhaps a bit overboard, as my policy of ultra secrecy stops me from talking about how the food I make fits in with my life. As cooking is something I really enjoy, the two are hard to completely separate. So starting today I will start to reveal more about who Random really is, for I know you all have been just dying to know :)

I recently moved from Colorado to Texas for my job - ballet dancer. On one of my first days here I made an old favorite of mine, french toast. My favorite bread for french toast is a good quality sourdough, but the bread I got was a como loaf from Super Walmart (in Colorado my local grocery store was a Whole Foods, and now it's Walmart...). However, it surprised me by actually being pretty good bread!

When it comes to French toast, I'm a purist, and my recipe is simple:

  • Good quality fresh bakery bread such as a sourdough.
  • Eggs

Either coat pan with butter or cooking spray and thoroughly drench bread in lightly beaten eggs. Place bread on heated pan. Cook until first side is slightly browned and then flip to other side. Repeat until cooked through and slightly crisp (but be careful to not overcook and burn the toast!). Enjoy.
